A Design Lover's Haven: Audo Residence in Copenhagen's Nordhavn
When my friend Lexis suggested staying at the Audo Residence during my visit to Copenhagen, I was immediately intrigued. As a fan of midcentury modern design, I was excited when I learned that Audo is a Danish furniture company.
The Audo Brand
Audo is part of the Flos B&B Italia Group, a leading global design brand. The group includes other famed Danish brands like Louis Poulsen and Lumens. Their driving purpose… "We design for a beautiful life."
Location: Nordhavn - A Modern Urban Oasis
The Audo Residence is nestled in Nordhavn (North Harbor), an ambitious urban redevelopment project just outside of Copehangen’s city center. Once an industrial port, this area has been transformed into a hotspot for modern architecture and innovative urban planning. The Danes have masterfully blended mixed building types and common spaces to create a walkable, bike-friendly neighborhood filled with:
Restaurants and coffee shops
Swimming boardwalks
Abundant outdoor spaces and nature
All within a 10-15 minute bike ride from the city center
Nordhavn showcases how thoughtful urban planning can be beautiful and engaging while increasing housing density, serving as a blueprint for future urban development.
The Audo House: Where History Meets Modernity
The Audo Residence is housed within the Audo House, a 1918 building that originally served as a boathouse and Neo-Baroque residence. This historic structure has been given a minimalist makeover and now features:
A café
Co-working space
Furniture concept store
The Audo Residence: a 10-room boutique hotel on the private upper floor
The Audo Residence Experience
Each room in the Audo Residence is designed as an understated and intimate loft-style retreat. Once you pass through the lively common area, you head to the resident’s private elevator. When you step out of the elevator onto the residence floor, it feels warm, inviting and quiet.
The Audo Residence offers the perfect blend of style, comfort, and immersion in Danish design culture. From the moment I arrived, the Audo Residence felt like a true Copenhagen home away from home. The intentional design of the space and the staff created an immediate sense of comfort and relaxation. Audo seamlessly blends beautiful design with genuine hospitality, making your stay relaxing.
When to Visit
Go in the summer. Rent a bike. Ride it everywhere. Go for a swim. Sunbathe with the locals. Enjoy a glass of wine (or two) at my favorite little swimming hole: La Bachina.
