An Urban Oasis in Tokyo: My Stay at Trunk Hotel Yoyogi Park
Around the end of last year, I had a craving for a solo adventure. Through a series of events (and Instagram), I landed on Japan. This is the first of a few hotels I stayed at that I think are worthy of sharing with you.
The Visionary Behind Trunk
Yoshitaka Nojiri, a Shibuya native and successful entrepreneur, founded the Trunk brand with a vision to create an "urban retreat" in his childhood neighborhood. His commitment to eco-consciousness and local culture is evident throughout the hotel.
A Boutique Experience
20 rooms and 5 suites
Rooftop bar, pool, and hot tub
Italian restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner
Adjacent to the popular Fuglen Coffee Roasters
After navigating Tokyo's crowded streets, I found solace in my well-designed room and the hotel's tranquil amenities. The rooftop hot tub became my favorite spot to unwind and take in the city views.
Thoughtfully Designed Rooms
The rooms showcase a perfect harmony of Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics, dubbed "#japandi". Here's what stood out:
Organic, locally-sourced bathroom amenities
Complimentary room wear (pajamas)
Nightly turndown service with a sweet treat and tea
I particularly appreciated the attention to detail, from the comfortable bedding to the carefully selected furnishings. Every detail, no matter how big or small, has been thoughtful curated for the guest. This is not a surprise given the founder’s roots in the wedding business.
Exploring the Tomigaya Neighborhood
Located just a 10-minute walk from Shibuya station, the hotel sits across from Yoyogi Park and Jingu no Mori. This creative hub offers:
Unpretentious local cuisine
Charming neighborhood bars
Easy access to major attractions
I loved starting my days with a cappuccino and raisin bun at Fuglen Coffee Roasters, watching locals and fellow travelers alike. The hotel's prime location allowed me to explore on foot, immersing myself in the local culture and green spaces.
Final Thoughts
Trunk Hotel Yoyogi Park perfectly balances urban convenience with a retreat-like atmosphere. For travelers seeking an authentic, design-forward experience in Tokyo, this hotel is an lovely choice.
I am always on the hunt for beautiful, well-designed hotels with a soul and sense of place. In this newsletter, I do my best to share my findings and experiences with you. Thanks for following along!
